The Generation of Great Resignation

The aftermath of Covid-19 runs deeper than the disappearance of face masks-it’s reshaping how we work. While movements like FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) gained traction before the pandemic, many are now quitting their jobs before even reaching their ideal passive income goals.

If you’re reading this, you might have already left the workforce, be planning (or yearning) to quit, or be inspired by the idea of no longer working for others. So, tell me: why has work stopped motivating you-or why did it never motivate you in the first place?

Why I Quit

Some people hate their jobs and view work as a means to fund their lifestyle, hobbies, or interests, without intrinsic meaning. I am the opposite-I love working. My work defines me, which make it impossible to be a means to an end. If the job itself feels meaningless (as anthropologist David Graeber outlines in Bullshit Jobs), I find it hard to stay motivated.

At 30, five years ago, I quit my corporate job. I had the benefit of a secure passive income and my partner still has a job in London, so we continue to live here. The ancient Chinese philosophy…
