Hey Kevin, thanks so much for your clarifications! I am definitely not a linguist (but a social anthropologist!)

Thanks for teaching me about noun classes, now it makes plenty of sense. I agree that just because a language doesn't differentiate between grammatical gender, it doesn't make them less or more sexist, etc.

The current discourse of gender diversity focuses on challenging the original binarity of male and female. The point of my article is that we should not challenge that anymore (i.e. stop focusing on strengthening non-binary as it's a direct response to binary), but to focus on diversity.

In fact, removing pronouns and further labels, I argue, should be the way to go with sexual orientation, gender and sex discourse. This, relies on a fundamental change in the concept of gender, which is deeply rooted in the cultural construction of languages.
